What is REVIBE exactly?

The culmination of years of clinical experience dealing with digestive health conditions like IBS,
REVIBE is a holistic nutritional and lifestyle-based strategy that goes beyond elimination alone.

REVIBE has 4 foundations that inform any nutritional intervention:

  • Targeted approach

First considering the patient’s primary symptom profile: IBS-C, IBS-D or IBS-M.

  • Step-wise algorithm

    Adopting a step-wise approach using low-risk interventions.

  • Eating disorder aware

Screening for eating disorder (historic, existing or elevated risk) before commencing elimination diets.

  • Mental health aware

Educating the patient about the gut-brain-axis and employing a multi-modal approach for those living with anxiety.

REVIBE gives dietitians the skills to help their clients live symptom-free while maintaining quality of life and a healthy, happy relationship with food.

"I have adapted the REVIBE method in practise with my IBS clients and it has allowed me to get better, all-rounded results.

I also feel confident having a plan in place for clients who are not suitable for the low FODMAP diet (for example backgrounds of disordered eating) and to set up the foundations for those who are, to ensure we are implementing it as safely and effectively as possible. I also feel much more confident using fibre supplements and probiotics since adapting the REVIBE method and working with Elissa."

How REVIBE has
changed practice for dietitians like you.

The story behind REVIBE...

We became dietitians to help people eat nutritious food, right?!

REVIBE is my answer to a perennial challenge in addressing digestive disorders like IBS – how to alleviate symptoms without sacrificing quality of life, compromising nutrition, exacerbating anxiety, or triggering disordered eating.

My experience with the low FODMAP diet.

While research by Monash University published in 2005 led to a quick uptick in practising dietitians adopting a low FODMAP framework, I didn’t actually start using it clinically until around 2012. Up until then, I had been getting good results applying the NICE guidelines, focussing on regular meals, reducing irritants, and modifying fibre intake.

The challenges of elimination diets.

Anyone who’s worked in this space will know, proper implementation requires a very strict elimination period. Having to count out your snack of almonds and measure the ratio of broccoli heads to stalks takes its toll. I watched as my clients’ family dinners disintegrated, eating out became impossible, and going on holidays became anxious and overwhelming (rather than relaxing).
